The edgy trailer of Dhoom 3 got everyone spellbound.

The trio shared their experiences while shooting the movie.

The trailer got great response from the media and audience present there.

It is the only Hindi movie which is getting so much of traction being Aamir Khan for the first time will be seen plays a negative character.

After Hollywood movies like Spider man and Superman this is the first Bollywood film to get launched in IMAX.

Anushka Sharma turns producer

Joins hands with Phantom for NH-10

 

Anushka Sharma is joining hands with Phantom to produce Navdeep Singh’s next film called NH 10. Anushka, who plays the lead in the film, liked the script so much that she has decided to co-produce it with Phantom. At 25, this makes her among the youngest actor-producers on the block taking her into a different league altogether vis-à-vis her contemporaries. With two of the biggest films Rajkumar Hirani’s Peekay with Aamir Khan and Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet with Ranbir Kapoor, NH 10 will be her third release next year.

Continuing with their content driven films like Lootera, which released this year, Phantom will back Navdeep Singh to direct his second film post his critically acclaimed debut Manorama 6 feet Under. The film is an edge of the seat action thriller about a road trip gone wrong. It brings together a very talented crew of technicians including international action directors.

Speaking on her new role, Anushka says, “I’m thrilled to get a chance to do this so early on in my career. And I couldn’t have found a better project than NH-10 to kick-start this new phase in my film journey. This is my second film after Bombay Velvet with Phantom, and it’s a blast working with them. It’s going to be super-exciting working together again on what promises to be an explosive film.”

Adds Vikramaditya Motwane of Phantom; “It’s extremely reassuring for us when the lead actor wants to join hands, to back an outstanding script like NH10. We strongly believe in the script and know that Navdeep is going to make a kickass film out of it”.

Being shot this winter across the northern plains around Delhi, NH 10 will release 12 Sep, 2014.

Dhoom is the first IMAX film in Bollywood and there has been a lot of hype around the trailer launch.

 

There has been a lot of murmur and enquires about the trailer from general public.

 

 This could be stemming from word of mouth spread by the staff or other teams working to put together today’s event.

 

It is a huge scale event and the exhibitor received umpteenth enquires . They requested YRF to enhance security from their end, on the day of the trailer launch.

 

The YRF team did two through recce’s to ensure all the security details are spelled out.

 

Even while they tested the trailer at the theatre, to ensure there is no technical glitch they requested they exhibitor to station only minimum crew.

 

There is a sense of secrecy which the makers have maintained. No one seems to know what the film is about and there are umpteenth rumors floating.

 

 Infact, when the final cut of the trailer was ready a personelle flew down to Delhi to show it to Aamir Khan. In these tecno-savvy times, usually one can transfer the trailer via internet… However to ensure there is no leak a person was deputed to personally go and show the trailer/

In Dhoom 3, Aamir Khan for the first time will be seen playing  a negative character.

The film is slated to release on 20th December

For Neetu Chandra, acting has always been a passion and with her foray into theatre – Neetu is definitely on the right track with the lead role as Umrao jaan. The icing on the cake for Neetu apart from the fantastic role, is also the music of the play which has been given by Rekha Bhardwaj. It will Rekha Bhardwaj’s debut as a music director. . She has also lent her voice for Neetu.

To prepare for her role, which has been enacted earlier on big screen by iconic stars, Rekha and Aishwarya Rai. Neetu has been brushing up on her kathak. And learning the diction for Urdu.

Neetu is affectionately addressed as ‘Umrao’ on the sets while rehearsing by the crew members.

Saturday morning was transformed into a colorful retreat as NDTV hosted the ‘Paint for the girl child’ activity across India. The activity is a part of the recently launched NDTV Vedanta Our Girls Our Child initiative.

In an attempt to raise awareness about the NDTV Vedanta Our Girls Our Child initiative, NDTV hosted the ‘Paint for the girl child’ activity across New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Udaipur simultaneously. ‘Paint for the girl child’ witnessed hundreds of artists creating murals and canvas paintings and thousands of school students participate in a painting competition encouraged by famous personalities.

Supporting the cause were renownedAnjolie Ela Menon, Paresh Maity and Designer Leena in New Delhi; actressRituparna Sen and artists Pradip Das andMadhuchanda Majumder in Kolkata; Designer and politician Shaini NC and the theatre personality and Ad filmmaker Alyque Padamsee in Mumbai.

Mujra originally is a form of dance developed by tawaif (courtesans) during the Mughal era which incorporated elements of the native classical Kathak dance onto music such as thumris and ghazals or poems of those from other Mughal cultures. Bollywood is known widely for its various dance sequences appearing in movies, Mujra is one of the major part of it Modern Mujra has become a huge sensation in Bollywood starting from Madhuri Dixit’s scintillating performance in Devdas. She played a courtesan as Chandramukhi in the 2002, her dance in the song ‘Maar Dala’ became hugely popular that year.

 

 

Kangana Ranaut is all set to create a new benchmark in the industry with her Mujra performance in her upcoming film, Rajjo.

 

 

For her role as a nautch girl Kangana has worked very hard to bring authentic performances to the screen. In preparation for this film, Kangana underwent a rigorous Kathak training. 

 

Under the esteemed guidance of Rajendra Chaturvedi who is a dynamic and a versatile dancer and who has carved a special niche for himself in the field of Kathak, Kangana has put in her heart and soul in practicing to be perfect for the role of ‘Rajjo’.

 

 

 Let’s go down the memory lane and revisit some historically epic Mujra performance portrayed on the big screen.

The original Chandramukhi in the 1955 ‘Devdas’, Vyjayanthimala was an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer to begin with. Hence, her performance in ‘Ab Aage Teri Marzi’ did not come as a tough task and she looked marvellous in the entire dance sequence.

 

 

One of the most beautiful actresses of yesteryears, Madhubala dazzled as Anarkali in the period epic movie ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ – and ‘Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya’ has become the stuff of pop culture. She was not a trained dancer like most of her contemporaries, but she pulled off the hit Mujra number with élan. Rekha is another popular name that comes into mind when thinking about all the great Mujra performances. She was absolutely stunning in ‘Umrao Jaan’ (1981) – her most memorable Mujra performances being ‘In Aakhon Ki Masti’ and ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’. Another jewel of hers is ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ from ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’.  

 

 

When talking about Mujra one cannot miss out the original Mujra queen, Meena Kumari swayed the audiences with her dances in ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Inhi Logon Ne’ and ‘Thare Rahiyo’ – all from the classic hit ‘Pakeezah’. One of Meena Kumari’s last films, she received a posthumous Filmfare nomination for her beautiful portrayal of a tragic courtesan.

 

 

 

Its only the dynamic women of the past who have had the courage to gracefully carry out beautiful Mujra performances, some of the contemporary actress too have tried and succeeded more or less. Although Aishwarya Rai comes off a poor second next to Rekha in the ‘Umrao Jaan’ remake, but she too is quite good as a tragic ‘tawaif’. ‘Salaam’ was a beautiful number that Aishwarya will best be remembered for from the movie. Besides, her performance in the song from ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ – ‘Kajra Re’, a quite upbeat twist to the classic Mujra, went through the roof when it was released.

 

 

 

Rani Mukherjee the bong beauty in ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’ played the part of a prostitute who falls in love with the protagonist. The Mujra of that film was called ‘Main Vari Vari’. Rani looked resplendent in her pink and gold regalia as the chief courtesan – and made the most of her small role in the movie. 

 

 

Our very own Miss Universe too gave Mujra a chance Sushmita Sen had a small role in ‘Kisna: The Warrior Poet’ (2005) – and as the courtesan Naima Begum, danced to the much forgettable number ‘Chilman Uthegi Nahi’. Although she looked beautiful and danced gracefully, the performance was a marker of how the subtleties of the dance form is now near to being lost in Bollywood.

 

 

 

Just when everyone thought that Mujra was losing its charm and the moves had become redundant, the age of modern Mujras rose, and the churidars are replaced with shararas. Kareena Kapoor brought in this change with ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ in ‘Agent Vinod’ (2012). The beats sound nothing like those of the languid sarods and upbeat tablas of the original mujras. Even though there were no guarantees that this type of music or ensemble could work but Bebo pulled it off and ushered the era of Modern Mujras.

 

 

 

The cinema will now see the rising star Kangana Ranaut create magic on the screen with her moves. The long journey from the 60s to the 21st century has given the world so much in terms of Dance and Mujra specifically that Kangana will have much to compete with and even more to live upto.
