Actress Tilda Swinton who’s gearing up as the ‘Ancient One’ in Doctor Strange prepared for the physical demands of the role by working with the talented stunt team and a group of extraordinary martial artists as well as with Julian Daniels who taught her hand movements: the extraordinary ‘tutting,’ of which he is a celebrated master. Commenting on the experience, she says, “It was like being at a most delicious school. We were learning all these things that we would never otherwise have learned. You want to do something that draws on certain disciplines or certain traditions but at the same time you want to do something that’s never been done before. You want to make it original and the fight directors have done a phenomenal job of creating a particular style of fighting that only people who have studied under The Ancient One in Kamar-Taj will know.”

For Swinton, working with the cast was a real pleasure.“Marvel generally casts rocking people,” she says. “To be honest, I think we are just lucky to be the next band on the roster and it is a great band to be a part of. They’re all great and we’re all so psyched to be a part of making this film. That makes such a difference, to feel like a team of lucky people grateful together.”

Tilda Swinton says the film is a full on rollercoaster ride…..she says,“It’s a wild ride. For those who are interested in the ‘geekery’ of special effects, they’re going to have a field day. It’s going to be a real thrill. Those who are interested in a human story about digging deep and finding a way to live your life that has real meaning where you live in service to humankind and you’re not just a total selfish bastard, they’ll be very happy. And those who want to go to Kathmandu and can’t afford a plane fare are going to have a spectacular trip for the price of a cinema ticket!”

Doctor Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton releases on 4th November
