It’s the first time ever for any film

Mumbai, 28th March, 2017: Ever since the launch of its teaser a few months ago, the excitement and anticipation for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ has catapulted it to be the most awaited super hero film of the year. Given the success of the franchise at Indian Box Office and the fact that ‘friendly neighbourhood’ Spider-Man has a universal appeal that cuts across all ages, Sony Pictures Entertainment, India, has come up with a unique idea to ensure that the country’s most loved super hero reaches out to his fans like never before

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ will be the first film in the world that will have a trailer launch in 10 Indian Languages. Apart from English, the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ official trailer will be launched in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali. One language trailer will be revealed every day.

Vivek Krishnani, Managing Director – Sony Pictures Entertainment India says,” At Sony, we pride ourselves in finding innovative ways to engage with audiences that often turn out to be the trend setters for the Industry. We wanted to give Spider-Man a hero’s welcome and what better way than people of India welcoming him to their homes in their own language. India loves Spider-Man and the franchise has seen unprecedented success at the Indian Box Office. Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be larger, bigger than its previous outings as this installment blends with the Marvel cinematic universe. There is much action planned in coming months, in tune with the expectations of the audiences, as they wait eagerly for this blockbuster.”
Divya Pathak, Director, Marketing- Sony Pictures Entertainment India, adds,” We re-imagined our marketing strategy for the trailer launch since we wanted to have maximum touch points so that we do justice to the fandom Spider-Man enjoys in the country. It was important for us to break the clutter and to be inventive because we wanted to widen the appeal. The trailer launch in 10 Indian languages has not been attempted by anyone in India and we are hoping to turn the latest outing of Spider-Man into a successful one, yet again!”
The makers are also looking at releasing the posters of the film in above said languages, even as the film will be released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on 7th July 2017.
‘Spider-Man: Home Coming’ marks the debut of spunky 20 year old Tom Holland as Spiderman. What makes this Spiderman different from all others is the fact that this time he is being mentored by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr).
Needless to say then, we cannot wait to see our favorite web slinger superhero go about his business like never before, in this Homecoming!

Synopsis of Spider-Man: Homecoming
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

The Salesman – Asghar Farahadi interview

  • My first question is about your skill to become a domestic drama in a kind of Greek tragedy. Did you do the same in A separation, The past and now in The Salesman. How did you know that you are in front of your next story?

I’d been taking notes for this simple story that I’d had at the back of my mind for some time. When the chance to do a film in Iran came up, I started collecting all these scattered notes I’d been taking over the years. Besides that, I’ve always wanted to do a film that takes place in the world of theatre. I did theatre when I was younger, and it meant a lot to me. The story was ideally suited for the theatre milieu. So I started developing a scenario about characters putting on a play.

  • Talking of casting of The salesman: how is the process to find the right actor (actress) to make a great performance?

It varies from film to film. With The Salesman I knew who would be playing the two leads while I was writing the summary; in general terms there’s usually one or two parts I know which actors will play them. This helps me a lot in entering the world of the film. On the set I am more comfortable, too, because we know each other’s tastes.

  • Emad is my favorite character because he looks like an ordinary person, put himself in another face of his mind: is angry and he wants revenge. Tell me about your job in terms of building the character in script and your approach with actor.

I have one in mind for each of the characters you see. The actors go and build their own backstory, sometimes we end up discussing them, and sometimes they’re quite different. Where those differences don’t affect the character in any major way, I let that stand. Anywhere where it does change the character in any major way, I’ll ask them to change it.

I remember when I was talking to Taraneh Alidoosti, she asked, “Why doesn’t she live with her family?” In the story that I had in mind for her, this girl’s family lived in a different city. When I told her this, Taraneh said, “Now, I have to go and work differently on this character because she’s from the provinces.”

The characters were simply created so that the viewer doesn’t have the feeling this couple is any different from many others. It’s an ordinary couple with its own characteristics. They’re both in the cultural sphere and act in the theatre. But they find themselves in a situation that reveals unexpected aspects of their personalities.

  • In between lines, I can feel a critic point of view about women situation in Iran: the choice of Rana is be quiet and avoid a scandal. Please, tell me your intention in the film in this way.

We have this idea of being a bit prudish and the body and family is something that is private. This is something you learn in Iran when you are a child, you have this dichotomy between men and women. Failure to respect this privacy – I’m not commenting on it, I’m just saying that this exists. In addition to this privacy, there is this problem of collective judgment – the way others view you, which is very important.

  • You’re one of the most representative filmmaker of Iran. Do you see your career as a huge responsibility?

I don’t see it as a pressure but as an opportunity. I recognize that no one film could in any way claim to provide a picture of a whole society, a society of over 70 million that have a variety of beliefs and lives. But each film can provide a picture of a small segment of that society. But even that that’s a relative picture from my point of view! But for as long as it doesn’t limit my abilities as a filmmaker I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity to provide a window into my country.

Father & Son – The Bond Beyond The Reel

Sometimes reel translates into real and vice-versa even before you realise what is happening. Shubhashish Bhutiani the director of the multi-award winning film MUKTI BHAWAN, realised it while working on it.

Speaking about the parallels Bhutiani said, “While I was developing the script, we were doing a workshop and like the characters of the film, I had to share a hotel room with my producer for 10 days, who happens to be my dad. Or maybe it should be the other way around! It was strange for me to be my dad’s roommate, and we could see our different personalities come out. Sometimes we would argue, sometimes we would discuss, and there were tough days where he at the end of the day he had me laughing till it hurt.

“As a writer we often take things from our own lives or observations. There are multiple scenes that, consciously or subconsciously, have made their way into the movie. A big point of the film I did see up close was people’s challenges in trying to juggle their lives with taking care of their elderly parents, and balancing their own lives simultaneously. You can see how torn apart they are in their responsibilities.”

We had to ask the producer and dad, Sanjay Bhutiani, his take on the journey through MUKTI BHAWAN, “It was during the making of this film that I realised that my son can say ‘No!’, I have all his life told him ‘do this, like this… do that…’ it was beautiful to see the child I held in my arms take over the helm. I cannot help sound emotional, it’s a big revelation for me. Given it is a father-son story made by a father and son, means a lot of course. But nothing could come to par which creating Red Carpet Moving Pictures together. It is not only a collective initiative, it is a collective dream,” shared Sanjay.

Given how closely the film resonates with their heart’s emotions, it didn’t surprise when Shubhashish added, “While writing the film, I remember thinking that I hope that this is the kind of film that makes people call their family. Someone who saw the film told me they did that, and that was one of the most heart-warming responses I’ve received.”

MUKTI BHAWAN is written and directed by Shubhashish Bhutiani and is produced by Sanjay Bhutiani, Sajida Sharma and Shubhashish Bhutiani under the banner Red Carpet Moving Pictures. The film features Adil Hussain, Lalit Behl, Geetanjali Kulkarni , Palomi Ghosh, Navnindra Behl  & Anil K Rastogi and will release on 7th April 2017.
