Mumbai, 26th October– 51 years after Basu Bhttacharya’sTeesri Kasam, Panishwar Nath Renu’s creation- Panchlait hits the silver screen pan India on 17th November. Renu’s heart-warming stories have always created curiosity among film makers yet it remains vastly unexplored with the last release being Teesri Kasam, helmed by Basu Bhattacharya.
Panchlait is the story of a kerosene lamp (which uses paraffin and a hand pump which is used to pressurize, in order to light it up), which plays an integral part in a villagerslife and possessing one is a mark of honour. The film revolves around a specific village community- Mahato Tola and acquiring the coveted Panchlait after much ado and chain of incidents leading upto it. The story line is hinged on multiple and layered social interactions and an ethereal romance brewing between the lead characters.
The film is helmed by Prem Modi, his second directorial outing after Arjun a Bengali feature film written (based on a novel) by Samaresh Mazumder, starring Sabhyasachi Chakraborty, Dipanker Dey, Manoj Mitra, Churni Ganguly and others. Modi has worked with stalwarts like Aparna Sen, Tapan Sinha, Anjun Dutt,Gul Bahar Singh, Shyaman and Jalan,Indranil Goswami among others. He has worked on multiple documentaries, internationally recognised and award winning projects. Prem Modi has worked with powerhouse actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, Amrish Puri, Konkona Sen Sharma, RituparnaSengupta, Rajit Kapoor, Victor Banerjee, Kaykay Menon, Jimmy Shergil, and Sandhya Mridul.
Talking about the release of the film, Prem Modi Stated, “I always had Phanishwar NathRenu’s stories in mind for my next venture. The simplicity in his stories is irresistible and growing up in Bengal I believe I have acquired a literary bent of mind. Besides I wanted to go Pan India and Hindi had to be my medium of communication this time. The storyline of Panchlait is straight from the Hindi heartland which is the better part of our country and I’m sure audiences around the country will relate to it. It is a tough job to adapt a story like this, since it is popular among the Hindi scholars, in fact this story is there in school syllabi. Also, it was extremely important to preserve the same regional flavour and philosophy upon which the Renu’s stories are based upon. Then I discussed it with my friend Rakesh Kumar Tripathi, who is an excellent writer, my friend and also an associate in this film, thus this project became the dream project for both of us. We were working on this project from past 8 years, and eventually the story was culminated into an excellent script by Rakesh keeping the core elements intact. From the day we conceived this project to now he is there, in fact the whole cast and crew gave their hundred percent, making this dream project of mine and Rakesh a reality.”
The ensemble cast of Panchlait boasts of power house performers, NSD graduates and theatre artists such as Yashpal Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Ravi Jhankal, Brijendra Kala, LalitParimoo, Pranay Narrayan, Iqbal Sultan, MaliniSengupta, KalpanaJha with Amitosh Nagpal (Films- Dabangg, Aarakshan, Rangrez and Red)(RED was not a film, it was a TV series) and Anuradha (a trained classical dancer and acted in films like Days of Tafree, Life Biriyani . Alongside a stellar star cast the film also lists veteran crew members), in the lead.
Talking about the release of the film actor Yashpal Sharma said, “Panchlait is the kind of cinema that happens once in a while and I’m glad to be a part of the project. The biggest draw for this film is that it is a Paneshwarnath Renu story and we have made the film in its purest form. Keeping everything realistic. I’m waiting for the release now”.
Panchlait hits cinemas around the country on 17th Novemberr.

The film that is an official adaptation of 2014 South Korean film, ‘Ode to My Father’ which depicted modern Korean history from the 1950s to the present day through the life of an ordinary man.
The film was identified as potential content for the Indian masses, post the screening at Berlin Film Festival attended by filmmaker Atul Agnihotri who will be backing the film as producer.
It traces the journey of a man that starts in 1947 and ends in 2002. Producer Atul Agnihotri says, “It’s the journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the name of Bharat.”
Speaking about the film, Producer Atul Agnihotri informs, “That film is just the starting point for ours but since it was an inspiration, we wanted in all fairness to officially own it and acquired the remake rights before going ahead with Bharat.”
‘Bharat’ will be helmed by director Ali Abbas Zafar and will feature Salman Khan as the protagonist.
On Salman being the right choice to play this protagonist, Atul insists it’s a decision taken from the heart given his long association with his brother-in-law as an actor, producer and director. “It’s a character that I thought would resonate with him. It’s a huge responsibility making a film with Salman as there are big expectations that come with the job,” he adds.
“I’m very conscious about Salman’s fan base and what they want. And once again, I’m convinced that being a family film it’s worthy of coming during the festive time. And anyway, an Eid release is always every producer’s preferred choice,” Atul shares.
Sharing filming details, the producer says, since the film spans many periods, it will require a lot of travel and elaborate sets. “We will be shooting in Abu Dhabi and Spain, besides Punjab and Delhi in India. Prep in every department will be elaborate and happening even as we speak. Casting will be our main agenda over the next three months and since it’s a character-driven story, we will take actors who fit the part. It won’t be about getting names together but will be honest in its depiction,” Atul promises.
The film marks Producer Atul Agnihotri joining hands with Salman Khan post the Blockbuster 2011 Eid release ‘Bodyguard’ and Ali Abbas Zafar directing the actor post 2016 Blockbuster Eid release ‘Sultan’.
Produced by Atul Agnihotri and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, The film will go on floor in April 2018.

23rd October’17, Mumbai: Saregama, one of India’s leading music labels, releases the promotional song of the film Ittefaq – ‘Ittefaq se (Raat Baaki)’ on the Saregama YouTube channel. The song is a reprised rendition of the popular track ‘Raat Baaki Baat Baaki’ from the Amitabh Bachchan – Parveen Babi starrer: Namak Halal in 1982. Ittefaq is a rebooted version of the Yash Chopra 1969 suspense thriller of the same name.
The new version ‘Ittefaq se (Raat Baaki)’ is re-interpreted by singers Jubin Nautiyal & Nikhita Gandhi. Bappi Lahiri’s original disco beats in the song has been given a modern groovy arrangement with a distinctive lounge feel by the talented Tanishk Bagchi. While in the original song lyrics were penned by Anjaan, Tanishk Bagchi has weaved additional pieces into the new song.
The video starring the three main leads, sets up the mysterious theme of the film. Stylishly shot, and the music and lyrics complementing the mood, this is a video that will surely get audiences hooked and intrigued.
Speaking about the song and its reinterpretation in the modern day Ittefaq, Vikram Mehra – MD Saregama India said, “Raat Baaki from the original Namak Halal is a timeless track whose appeal cuts across generations. It is exciting that the iconic song has found a fresh new sound and relevance as Ittefaq Se, and is the promotional track of the film. We hope that this new version of the song finds a brand-new audience with the youth of today, and matches popularity of the old classic”.
Commenting on the launch of the promotional track today, Venky Mysore, CEO, Red Chillies Entertainment, says, “With Ittefaq, we are recreating a classic for today’s audiences and music has a very strong connect with them as long as it doesn’t come in the way of the narrative. This song adds to the overall mystery of the movie and gives the audiences a glimpse into what to expect from the film. Ittefaq has been marketed using all platforms aggressively so it can reach out to viewers across, being a songless movie with a crisp run-time of 100 minutes, this catchy track is a part of the end credits.”
Commenting on the track and its video, Juno Chopra, Creative Producer, Ittefaq, says, “The new track Ittefaq se is a groovy number but doesn’t have the usual dance moves in the video. It carries forward the theme of the movie and maintains the element of mystery that surrounds it. The music video is shot keeping the genre of the movie in mind and doesn’t take away from the look and feel of the movie.”
“Raat Baaki is an evergreen song. And we’re presenting it to the millennials in the way they like it… as a lounge track!
