Kangana Ranaut has currently immersed herself in the shooting of Manikarnika, in which she will be playing Rani Laxmibai. The actress has left no stone unturned to make sure she represents the legendary queen in the most suitable manner, and even sustained serious injuries while preparing for the role.
Recently, Sarva Brahman Mahasabha, a Brahmin group from Rajasthan, raised objection to the film, stating that it misrepresents facts. However, the makers of the film have vehemently denied these claims and have even offered to share the script of the film with the concerned authorities which are doubtful of its authenticity.
In conversation with a leading daily, writer of the film, KV Vijayendra Prasad, who has also penned some pathbreaking films like Baahubali, Magadheera and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, stated,
“No need to worry about it as I have portrayed her in the most respectable way. She is a warrior who fought against the British. She is my favourite woman leader. I have grown up reading about her. So, I will always portray her in an inspirational way.”
The veteran writer, who is Baahubali Director S.S Rajamouli’s father, added, “The film’s title is Manikarnika, because it is her name! Her parents named her that because she was born in Kasi and the Manikarnika Ghat there is very famous. Even I named my daughter Manikarnika, so you now know how much I respect Rani Lakshmibai.”
Film’s producer, Kamal Jain, also issued a statement on the issue where he clarified that Rani Laxmibai’s character had been represented with utmost care, “As responsible filmmakers, we have taken utmost care while portraying Rani Lakshmi-bai’s character and have consulted historians and scholars. Rani Lakshmibai was a freedom fighter and one of the most respected leaders that our country has seen. She is a symbol of valour and the film’s story depicts the same.”
He also confirmed that history had not been distorted in any way in the film.
Manikarnika is being helmed by Telugu director Radhakrishna Jagarlamudi(Krish) and also stars Ankita Lokhande, Sonu Sood, Atul Kulkarni and Jisshu Sengupta.
